On August 24th, it was learned from the ISO International Organization for Standardization that the international standard ISO 7055: 2023 “Test Method for Slippery Water Drag Reduction Performance in the Upstream Field of Natural Gas”, led by the Natural Gas Research Institute of Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company, was officially released. This is China’s first breakthrough in the field of international standards for shale gas, and a crucial step for China’s shale gas technology to participate in international market competition.
Since 2010, in order to overcome the technical bottleneck of inaccurate indoor evaluation methods for drag reduction performance in shale gas development, Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company has organized scientific researchers to conduct theoretical system research on drag reduction performance testing. After years of continuous research, an effective pipe diameter improvement model has been proposed for the first time. Through the application of this model, the accuracy of indoor resistance reduction performance testing has been improved to over 90%, the resistance reduction rate has reached 73%~78%, and the cost of smooth water has been reduced by 90%, effectively supporting the efficient and stable operation of shale gas “factory” operations. This achievement has been included in the first batch of industry standards formulated and released by the China Energy Industry Shale Gas Standardization Technical Committee, and was included in the 2018 Jiguo Company International Standard Cultivation Plan. Under the guidance and strong support of the National Standards Commission, National Energy Administration, and China National Petroleum Corporation, the establishment of an international working group was officially approved at the ISO/TC 193/SC 3-year meeting in 2021. The project was officially approved in 2022 and successfully released in August 2023. The release of this standard is conducive to enhancing mutual recognition in international cooperation and trade, effectively promoting the high-quality development of the shale gas industry.
