On June 6th, China National Petroleum Corporation’s first self-developed ultra-high sulfur gas field, Tieshanpo Gas Field, fully reached production, with a daily output of 4 million cubic meters of natural gas. Natural gas enters the national pipeline network and is transported to the Yangtze River Economic Belt, benefiting 200 million households, marking a new breakthrough in the key core technology of China’s ultra-high sulfur gas field development.
Tieshanpo Gas Field is located in Dazhou, Sichuan, with a maximum hydrogen sulfide content of 16.59%. According to the “Classification of Natural Gas Reservoirs” GB/T26979, it belongs to an ultra-high sulfur gas reservoir and is currently the fully installed gas field with the highest hydrogen sulfide content that has been put into operation in China. Safe, clean and efficient development of extra high sulfur gas fields is a world-class problem. PetroChina Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company systematically summarized the development experience of high sulfur gas fields in Sichuan Basin, absorbed the achievements of foreign cooperation, independently carried out large-scale scientific and technological research and field tests, successfully undertook the development of overseas high sulfur gas fields, and independently realized the development of Longgang ultra deep high sulfur gas fields, Fully possessing the ability and conditions to safely, cleanly, and efficiently develop high sulfur gas fields.
Safety is of utmost importance in the development of ultra-high sulfur gas fields. The selection of materials and overall corrosion control for the surface gathering and transportation system of ultra-high sulfur gas fields is a technical challenge in China. The construction of Tieshanpo Gas Field adopts high-grade materials, which is the first large-scale use of corrosion-resistant alloy bimetallic composite materials in onshore oil and gas integrated gas fields. The material itself solves the problem of internal corrosion in pipelines. In terms of corrosion control, Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company use new type of corrosion inhibitor and new process for overall corrosion control that is “full process, full lifecycle, and full region” and achieving engineering implementation. It is the first domestically produced pre film corrosion inhibitor successfully applied in ultra-high sulfur gas fields in China, with a performance improvement of 16% compared to similar international products, further enhancing China’s industry voice in the field of corrosion protection in ultra-high sulfur gas fields.
